#Author, should you think about translating your book?

Originally posted on Lit World Interviews:
Hi all: As some of you may know, apart from blogging here and in my own blog , I am a writer and I translate books from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. A few months back and as part of a book fair I was asked to talk about translations and I prepared a few notes. Although the full speech is a bit lengthy for a single post, I thought that in preparation for further interviews with author translating their books (and by the way, any authors who’ve had their books translated to Spanish, I’d be more than happy to share them in my blog after the summer. Just get in touch)  I thought I’d share some of the thoughts I had on possible reasons to get one’s books translated. Why would anybody want to have their books translated? We all know how big a competition we face to try and sell books. Making it available to a wider audience is always a great idea. In the…

Foreign Drama -Sungkyunkwan Scandal

Sungkyunkwan Scandal 20 episodes 2010 Another great drama from Mickey Yoochun.  (The Girl Who Sees Smells, Rooftop Prince, I Miss You, Miss Ripley) A man falls in love with a man -not because he likes men, but because a man can sense a woman, even when she appears to be a man.  Scent -it must be something a man can smell. Even so, you can still appreciate the struggle this man has as he refuses to give into a temptation that eats at his heart.  Even when he confesses his love, he withdraws from his desire.  At least, until that moment he is about to discover her secret.  Yeah, I know, it’s in the writing.  Well, this is what makes the story good.  If he would have given in before discovering her secret -well that drama would be for those that have other taste. Park Yoochun has been a part of 12 award programs between 2011, for Outstanding Korean Actor, for this drama -to 2015 for his performance in The Girl Who Sees Smells.  Six of …

Foreign Drama -Liar Game

Liar Game 2007-Japan; 2014 -Korea 12 episodes This drama originated as a Japanese Manga written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani, in 2005.  Japan introduced it as a drama in 2007, starring Erika Toda,  and Shota Matsuda.  They also produced Liar Game 2, in 2009,  Liar Game: The Final Stage as a movie, in 2010; Liar Game Reborn as a movie, in 2012. Then, Korea came out with their own take on this drama, adding a new character as a significant part in the lives of the winning duo, in 2014.  This is the drama I watched. Lee Sang Yoon won a Best Couple Award for the drama Seo Young, My Daughter, in 2012.    He has been in 16 dramas and 3 movies, including his latest 2016 production, Insane.  This is my first time to see this actor in action.  I enjoyed his performance. At a whopping 185 centimeters in height, he was still shorter than the 188 centimeter of an actor we all loved to hate in the drama, My Love From Another Star.  In 2014, he made Trot Lovers -and I …

For The Children

I feel slightly sick to my stomach right now. Not because I ate something but because I watched a report on TV about children. Children and there rights. Or better the lack of them. Here is the thing: In Australia children have what you call the right to grow up with both parents. And I think it’s a good thing in a normal divorce case. In the case that was just discussed though, things are slightly different. It’s a domestic violence case. When the child was 18 months old the guy snapped more than normal and after beating his wife again he tied her up on a chair and threatened her to kill the child. Rape and other physical abuse followed. Long story short, she found the courage to get police involved and he was then sentenced to 5 year of prison (what in itself is a joke). Before he was sentenced though, during the time the court heard his case, he had the right to see his…
