Changing my writing style…?
Is this a question, or the answer -I am a little bewildered?
Somehow, I’ve changed my writing style. In the past, I sat down and just wrote the book. I did very little editing until the novel was completed.
Now, surprisingly -I am editing a great deal as I go along. Why? What brought about this change?
Yes, this simple little writer’s site has completely transformed the way I prepare my novels.
This site allows you to share your work with other writers. The best thing is they critique you, chapter by chapter.
You do have to return the favor -but what a wonderful way to meet other prospective authors. I am learning a great deal about the kind of author I am -and my writing voice. For instance, I’ve learned that I write in limited omniscient point of view (POV).
The negative side -this is a difficult way to write. I didn’t know that -of course, cause I am an idiot. However, this is the way I write -so until I learn a better way that I want to change to, I will continue in this format.
So, back to scribophile -they have groups you can join:
- A group to develop strong sentences
- A group to discuss romance novels & writing
- A group for magical realism
- A writer’s book/writing club
- The writing prompt to help get story idea
You can even start your own group.
With the multiple critiques my chapters have already received -my book is beginning to take form and develop into a story I will be proud of.
I’ve also discovered my biggest weakness -tenses. Ugh! Why is this little 6 letter word such a challenge for me? Sadly, I don’t even seem to realize when I am using the wrong tense. Ugh! Ugh!
Why am I sharing this with you? If you haven’t tried scribophile, I think…you will love it too!
