Jot -An

Antihistorical means opposing history.  At first, I asked myself, “Why would anyone oppose history?  But, then I started thinking about it.  The people who would oppose history -are those that find fault in the historical content, or felt the written history was misleading -unfair, untrue or lies.

For instance, if you lived in South Korea -North Koreans would learn an entirely different historical event -around the same theme of what you would be learning.

Same thing could be happening in Vietnam, between East and West Germany (while they were divided -however, there could still be people who remember the division of the Great Wall, still believing what they were taught.

If America had divided between the North and the South -what kind of historical documents would have been taught?  The Indians and the White man; the blacks and whites; Jews and Muslims; Palestinians and Israel.  The list could go on and on!

We rely upon our history authors to tell the historical truth -the good, the bad, the ugly.  However, often times this truth will be guided by governmental or religious truths.  In these cases, we will not learn the true story -as seen by both sides.

As a child, I learned about how the Indians would attack and burn the homes and families of settlers.  Rarely did I hear that the white man was lying, stealing, and killing tribes for gold, minerals and land.  Nor, did I hear much about how we gave them liquor -causing drunkenness, that still lingers in reservations today.  Easy to steal from someone who is desperate for more liquor.

I would suppose there are even people who believe we should not attempt to discuss the past, or study historical documents -as truths.  Possibly, they don’t believe in what they did not witness!  That certainly holds true with many -concerning God.

I believe, as time passes -we learn more truths.  We are becoming more open to the sins of our forefathers -and also, embracing their deeds of righteousness.  With so much acceptance of immorality and dysfunction (drugs) -we tolerate the intolerable of those who walked this earth before us.  Then again, if I told you, President Lincoln was responsible for a 450-mile walk of murder for the Navajo and Apaches -would you want to know that about one of our greatest leaders?  Or, what if I said that John F. Kennedy supported the mafia?  Then, Benjamin Franklin had an illegitimate son, that he never acknowledged -even to his death bed.

These are all “facts” that I’ve read on the Internet -does it make them true?  There could be truth here, there could be at least partial lies.  I don’t know, as I never met three men -and they certainly did not confide in me.  We must take what we learn, and do much the same as I do with the parents of my foster kids -when we tell a story, oftentimes we tell little lies, hidden within the truth -or a lot of lies, with a little truth.  Either way, my job is to sort out the lies from the truths, moving forward with my discoveries.

That is how I take history.  Everyone has some truths among the lies -of how they learned it.  It is best to evaluate both sides and come up with what you believe -understanding; you could be wrong -at least to the person on the other side.
